Afterschool Programs
Homework Club Homework Club is a free, after school program for the kids who attend Ninos Heroes School and live in the immediate neighborhood of the club. It starts right after school and the students are dismissed at 5 pm. This is not a program of the school but has been in operation for 19 years sponsored by CURE. The students are given a treat (cookies, brownies, cake, popcorn, apples, etc.) and something to drink (milk or kool-aid) when they arrive. They then do homework until 3:30. If they finish early there are books and three computers with educational games. At 3:30 they play the games they signed up for when they arrived. At 4:00 and 4:30 they switch games and at 5 pm they go home. Admission to the club is given to the first 15 students that return signed permission slips. Homework Club operates Monday through Thursday. Homework Club, on average, improves academic performance one extra grade level each school year. Through the years nearly 300 students have participated in the club.
